The Kankakee County Board adopted a comprehensive update to its Greenways and Trails Plan on August 11, 2009. This update was the culmination of a year long planning process that involved citizens groups, government officials, and community leaders.

The Greenways and Trails Plan was completely rewritten and reflects changing attitudes and new trail planning technigues and technologies.
