In 1998 the State of Illinois awarded a Metro Greenways Grant in the amount of $25,000 to the Kankakee County Planning Department for the creation of a countywide Greenways and Trails Plan. This plan was written by the staff of the Planning Department during 1998 and part of 1999. It was adopted by the Kankakee County Board on June 8, 1999.
