Commuter
Transit Feasibility Study
The extension of commuter rail service from the Metra
Electric District termini at University Park into Kankakee
County has been identified as a priority by the Kankakee
County Board. The Kankakee County Planning Department
has entered into a partnership with the Will County Planning
Department on this issue. A Task Force of the following
representatives has been formed to be the oversight committee
for the issue:
• Aroma Park
• Bourbonnais
• Bradley
• Kankakee
• Kankakee
• Manteno
• Monee
• Peotone
• Will County
• Illinois Department of Transportation
Phase I Feasibility Study
In April 2003 an application for funding for a Phase
I Feasibility Study was made by Kankakee County to the
Illinois Department of Transportation in the amount of
$150,000. The local share on the project was set at 50%,
with the nine units of local government providing for
the local share in a population based formula.
The Task Force selected the firm of Parsons Brinckerhoff
to perform the study. The Phase I study began in February
of 2004. The final report was delivered in March 2005,

Phase II Feasibility Study
An application was made in December 2005 to the Illinois
Department for a Phase II Feasibility Study. The amount
of funding for the study was $300,000, with a 10% local
share. The nine units of local government on the Task
Force will provide the local share, in the same population
based formula as in the Phase I Study.
The Task Force has selected the firm of Earth Tech to
be the consultant on the Phase II Feasibility Study. The
study began in July 2006. Go to
