Planning Department

The Planning Department maintains a wide variety of data concerning Kankakee County and is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and implementing the County's Land Use Plan and other studies and documents that help to guide future growth within the County.

The division's professional Planners serve as staff to the Kankakee County Regional Planning Commission (KCRPC) and act as liaisons to various councils, forums, and committees. The Planning Division also gives guidance on zoning changes, subdivision plat reviews, and new development proposals, especially as they relate to overall growth patterns. The Planning Division works in conjunction with the other divisions of the Planning Department to ensure the best possible development alternatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Kankakee County Regional Planning Department is part of Kankakee County's full-time professional staff and is responsible for administrating and enforcing the adopted ordinances and plans relating to new and existing development within the unincorporated areas of the County. All petitions for Kankakee County Board approval having to do with the use of land are processed through the Planning Department.

The Kankakee County Regional Planning Department is divided into two halves. The Planning Division regulates the use of land and guides development, and the Building Division, is responsible for monitoring both new construction as well as the maintenance and remodeling of existing structures. The Department's jurisdiction lies in the unincorporated areas of the County.
